Variety and The L.A. Times are reporting that 20th Century Fox has picked up the option to co-finance Walden Media’s The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader just a month after Disney decided to pass on helping to finance the third film in the series. Budgeting and script issues are being worked out although there’s hope that the film will start shooting at the end of summer for a planned holiday 2010 release through the Fox Walden label.

Fox and Walden will split the production and P&A costs for “Dawn Treader,” which is projected to have a $140 million budget, down from the $215 million spent on last year’s The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. “Caspian” grossed $419 million worldwide, compared to the $745 million earned by its predecessor “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.”

As planned, the third film will be directed by Michael Apted with Mark Johnson and original director Andrew Adamson co-producing. Ben Barnes, Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley will be returning as Prince Caspian, Edmund and Lucy while Will Poulter from Garth Jennings’ Son of Rambow will play Eustace Clarence Scrubb.

Can’t wait to see Anna and Will outside of Narnia too :D Georgie should also play other movies. I wonder what Skandar would play???

I’m glad they are doing this one, even if it’s the last one. I think it’s great that Georgie and Skandar will get to play out the rest of their characters story before they (like Will and Anna) aren’t allowed in Narnia anymore. I think it’s only right to kind of have the original Pevensie kids sort of “graduate” in a way. They spent a lot of their childhood doing these films and it would be a shame to not complete it. I too can’t see a future film doing well once none of the original cast are in it, but I hope this one is done well and goes out w a bang! =}

Littleone

The next one and future ones will do great. You have Ustace show up in this one (Voyage of the Dawn Treader) then in the next one after that (Silver Chair) He brings his friend from school and go’s. It’ll be fun and if they stay true to the books those will go off with a BANG too. I’m so excited they are doing this series and got a perfect person to play Edmund.

Littleone

Yeah he definantly did a good job acting like a rude, obnoxious jerk in the first one then he realy seems considerate, and bold. (Like the sceen of him going to Miras with the treaty, yeah man). His carictor changed so much but it’s still Skandar. I hope he does alot of movies.

I think Skandar would do really good in old western movies. He would make a good cowboy, since he already knows how to ride a horse. :)

Hmm, I hope that Fox picking this up won’t influence the outcome of the movie. I wished Disney wasn’t as put off with the lack of money PC brought in, because they make so much money other ways. And the new director has made me a bit iffy, since Andrew Adamson did such a good job with the other two adaptations. Voyage of The Dawn Treader does give a fair bit of the spotlight to Edmund and Lucy which I think I’ll enjoy. They’re filming this movie less than an hour from where I am presently – I might go and see if I can get a glimpse of the set or any of the actors.

Simone

I wonder if Skandar reads this,
I feel sorry for the young boy with all the teenagers out to get him.
Poor Skandar..
